Lactose intolerance
symptoms are result of inability to digest the sugar in
milk, lactose. This inability results from a shortage of the
enzyme lactase, which is normally produced in the small
intestine. |

-
Most common
lactose intolerance symptoms (from mild
to severe) are: gas, cramps,
and diarrhea. Symptoms appear 20-120 minutes
after you eaten food which contain lactose.
-
Easy and
simple way to find out if you are suffering from
lactose intolerance symptoms is to cut milk
products from your menu, and if symptoms are
gone you know you are suffering from lactose

Lactose intolerance
means your body doesn't produce enough lactase, which is
used for digestion of lactose (the sugar in milk). Normally
your digestion splits lactose in two parts glucose and
galactose, then this simple sugars are absorbed into the
bloodstream and then turned into energy. If your body
doesn't produce enough of lactase enzyme to break lactose
into two peaces, it seat undigested in the gut, causing
lactose intolerance symptoms to appear. How severe symptoms
are depends on that how much lactase one have, to help him
digest lactose.
Lactase deficiency is very common in all nations. Asians are
almost 100, American Indians 80, black 70 and American
Caucasians only 20 percent lactase deficiency people. But
Lactase deficiency is not the same as lactose intolerance.
Some people with low or middle deficent of lactase often
have no symptoms after taking milk products. Reduced amount
of lactase means you have lactase deficency, when that
causes symptoms you are also lactose intolerant. |
|
Factors that influence your lactose intolerance:
-
Your ethnic origin
People from Asian, African, Native American origin are
more likely to be lactose intolerant due to their
lactase deficiency.
-
People with
digestive problems are more likely to be lactose
intolerant.
-
Taking medication,
particiulary antibiotics can be another risk that your
intestine will produce less lactase enzyme.
-
The older you get
the greater the risk of getting lactose intolerant is.
Its natural process that in certain age body stop
producing lactase enzyme.

Test of lactose
intolerance is done by hydrogen breath test. It works by
detecting hydrogen in your breath. Undigested lactose
produce hydrogen which can be detected in your breath. Test
starts by you blowing into the tube to get first sample,
then you will be asked to eat something with lactose in it,
and after a while blow into the tube again. Then the level
of second sample is compared with first, and if there is
difference, then you are lactose intolerant.
Every day life with lactose intolerance
Lactose intolerant people have to adapt their life and try
to lower amount of milk product they consume. Best is to
have a diet for few days, and then try to listen to your
body to se how it reacts as you add some milk products.
Everybody has different tolerance to amount of lactose body
can digest. Due milk is good for bones as it is great source
of calcium, you can get supplement for that. Children who
are still growing have greater need of calcium need about
1,300 milligrams (mg) of calcium each day, so eating calcium
supplement is vital. Most of people enjoy milk products very
much, and fund very difficult to quit them. For them best
solution is to take lactase supplement(tablets or liquid)
which will replace low amount of lactase in their body, so
they can enjoy milk products freely.
